“Seeing” things differently has been my life’s most wonderful and most challenging gift. I do most of my work with Sashiko stitching and add my spin on quilting and surface design. Making my own fabric with Shibori and Botanical printing, I find I can achieve the visions I have.
Artist Bio
Ellen Baranowski is an emerging fiber artist whose work has been exhibited in the Women in the Arts Show (Winnsboro, Texas, 2022–2025), the Tyler Quilt Show (2022–2025), Creative Strength Training 2022 Members Edition (page 54, Becky’s Hardanger), Inspired by Archetypes (2022, pages 38–39, The Shapeshifter), and Sacred Threads 2025.
Her practice centers on Sashiko, a traditional Japanese stitching technique, which she enhances through botanical printing, indigo Shibori, and natural dye work.

Coming from a family of stitchers, weavers, and quilters, Ellen learned to sew at a young age during afternoon “rest time.” She also draws creative inspiration from her lifelong love of music—voice, piano, guitar, and now the mountain dulcimer.
Ellen holds a B.A. in Early Childhood Education. She lives in Tyler, Texas with her husband, son, and their doxie, Walter. She is the proud mother of eight adult children and grandmother to eight wonderful grandchildren who call her Mimi.
